I applied to beta test for Sony’s PlayStation Suite SDK way back in December. The application process was a bit tedious. I had to submit a sort-of resume and portfolio of game development, and I sent them a copy of Dark Havoc. Fast-forward to Friday, I got an email of acceptance, and was able to download and play around with this new-fangled API. This programming interface runs atop Mono (which is the open-source implementation of Microsoft’s .NET Framework) and runs on the PlayStation Vita, Xperia Play, and other “PlayStation-Certified” devices. I feel like a badass going through the files, and seeing plastered on everything “SCE CONFIDENTIAL”.
DRM doesn’t sell your game(s). Your game(s) sell your game(s).
So, I am removing my DRM technology “DRMWiz” from Dark Havoc. :D
Yay! I implemented toggling between windowed mode and full-screen mode, and I also fixed up the sound code a lot. I now need to implement different control schemes, and then I can implement core game-play mechanics.
Note: I am developing this by myself, with no help from anyone (so far).
Sorry, I have been “stumbling” to get some work done on this. So I haven’t been tumbling.
I have just implemented the majority of the asteroids logic in my game, “Dark Havoc”.
Error reporting is now implemented in Dark Havoc. I am now going to implement bosses, and intelligent enemies.
It’s a success, I integrated Facebook in my game. Subsequently, I had to set up a fan/like page for my game too.
Yesterday, I set up a website for Dark Havoc. I’m not done setting it up yet.
Boy… making a game nowadays is hard work. :)
I’m now adding Facebook integration for my game. This feature will allow people to share their scores with their friends. It’s difficult work, but I’m getting there. (:
Work on Manhattan has sorta stopped, and I am working on Dark Havoc, which is The Eagle Merit, but it has updated code, and is more technically advanced.
Today I implemented mouse controls, and the option to switch between keyboard and mouse control schemes.
Later on, I’m going to implement different weapons, and bosses. Once I implement those, I’ll talk with Valve for distribution on Steam.
I’m busy busy busy busy… :\
Manhattan Project
Following the break-up of Trolloco Studios, I have been working on 2 projects: 1) Dark Havoc, which is a follow-up of The Eagle Merit. and 2) Manhattan Project, which I can’t talk about.
I can tell you this: It’s 3D, and the name comes from The Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb. I was making a game called “Mr. Atomic” which was going to be a type of game similar to Super Mario, which ironically I started development of it the day before Michael and Wyatt asked me to be the programmer of what was to become The Eagle Merit. I abandoned development of Mr. Atomic shortly after.
New screens from Dark Havoc, an upcoming 2D side-scroller shooter game from Joshua Kennedy. These images do not reflect the final quality of the software.
